They are many different social groups on campus like the ones described in the book. It's almost funny how similar the groups really are. We have areas like the "ghetto", "Little Cambodia", and even "South of the Border". There are groups of race, gender, and pretty much everything else.
I believe that having many social groups within a school is a great thing. More social groups in a school means more kids have a chance to fit in. If there were only a few cliques in a school then many kids would probably feel left out and lonely. More social groups give more kids the feeling like they are a part of a family within their friends.
