Dear Diary,
I can only recall one time in which I’ve truly had to be brave in order to help someone. That time came two summers ago while hanging out at the pool with my sister and some of her friends. One of the girl's brother, Jaden, was only about four years old but was insistent upon learning how to swim. A couple of kids were helping him in the pool and he was very well taken care of. His sister was paying close attention to him, or so I thought…
I was sitting at a table near the pool’s edge when I heard a tiny gasp for air, just loud enough to catch my attention. To my horror, I saw Jaden sinking to the bottom with nobody near him. Next thing I knew, I was in the pool, fully clothed, pulling the tiny boy to the surface. He seemed slightly shaken up but otherwise perfectly fine.
Once out of the pool, I didn’t know how to feel. I was flooded with all sorts of emotions: shock, terror, courage. I really became terrified when I heard the scream from Jaden’s mother. I brought him over to her and she thanked me more times than necessary. I felt rather pleased with myself after that, although I was still in a state of shock and high on adrenaline. The vibe completely changed for the rest of the day, but looking back on it I believe the situation did prove to me that with some bravery, I can be very helpful to others.
